What is Good Design?

A well-designed object keeps both the purpose and the user of the object foremost in mind.

Good design makes the object easy and pleasurable to use.

Good design is consistent, reliable, and functionally intuitive.

Good design does not sacrifice ease of use, reliability, or utility in the name of style.

Good design does not sacrifice appearance, style, or quality in the name of economy.

Good design is done right the first time.

An object that is aesthetically and physically pleasing makes work easier and more enjoyable.

An environment that is well-designed encourages positive mental health of those who interact with it.

Objects embody the intentions of their designers.

A well-designed object should outlive its designer.
